You could be the one asking the tough questions around campus as a news reporter for The Record. Learn how to establish sources, improve your interviewing techniques and become a better writer. With a beat such as academics, politics, diversity or security issues, you’ll become the expert on campus news.

From reporting at the big game to writing in-depth features, you’ll have the opportunity to hone your storytelling skills on anything involving sports. Follow the Blazer soccer team or the Johnnie basketball team as they battle for No. 1. But the sports section doesn’t stop there—maybe you have a passion for the outdoors, foosball or even ping-pong. Writing will include some game stories, but special emphasis will be placed on sports feature writing.

Here’s your chance to be as creative as possible. Variety writers tackle virtually anything—the arts, entertainment, trends, food, leisure activities—the possibilities are endless. The Variety section focuses the most on the art of storytelling by really narrowing in on the lives of students in the CSB/SJU community. You’ll be a part of exciting brainstorming sessions, meet lots of interesting people through your reporting and feel like a real part of The Record team.

At The Record, photography isn’t just about taking cool photos with a digital camera—it’s about telling stories through images.
