I appreciated last week’s “Our View” regarding the consistent lack of Johnnie participation compared to Bennies. Although I’ve noticed this to be a trend and an issue that needed to be addressed, I believe there could have been a more convincing message to support your argument while also setting realistic expectations for both CSB and SJU students. As a student at CSB and SJU you are always encouraged to try new things – whether those things be classes, clubs, sports, volunteer opportunities, internships, etc. Engaging in these opportunities are important because they shape the collegiate experience. However, at our colleges it is easy to notice a gendered difference. Bennies almost always participate at a higher rate than their Johnnie counterparts. (more…)

Reader’s Letter: Participation in Senate is a worthwhile experience

Dear Editor,

The CSB and SJU Senates will hold their elections in one week. As president of the St. John’s Senate and a person who has been on the Senate for four years, the impact Senate has had on me will be one I will always cherish after graduating from this place. Senate has helped me to not only become a better student, but instill a deeper passion for leadership. (more…)
