When we think of our sporting communities here at CSB/SJU, we often only think of SJU athletics, specifically the football team. The tilt toward SJU athletics is disproportionately recognized in regards to respect and notoriety compared with CSB athletics. There is virtue in attending and recognizing CSB athletics events. While two institutions, we are intertwined. The vast majority of students are missing out on opportunities by not attending CSB athletics. (more…)

Reader Letter | Pro-choice debate needs civil dialogue, not attacks

Dear Editor,

I’m writing in response to Diana McCarney in the Oct. 27 issue of The Record.

I’m surprised that McCarney, a college graduate, took the time to verbally attack Faye Williams’ opinion. I understand that this is a religious institution that doesn’t value abortion, but believe it or not, people can have differing opinions on controversial topics. Respect and listen to those that disagree with your beliefs. After all, those are Benedictine values, no? (more…)

Editor’s Take: The Bennie voice is almost nonexistent in The Record

During our Sunday night budget meetings when the editors meet to discuss what stories will be covered in the upcoming week’s issue, we like to give CSB and SJU equal coverage. That is not always possible depending on what is going on around campus, but we try our best to have equal coverage. But the past few weeks, The Record has been lacking in one specific area: the opinion section. (more…)
