On a cold, bleak Monday night, oddly reminiscent of the Vikings performance the night before, the St. John’s Senate (SJS) was called to order. The meeting contained one motion along with Senator Board Reports.
St. John’s Campus Ministry requested $1,500 for students to attend an upcoming retreat through the Men of Benedict Society. Presented by Nicholas Rethemeier and Daniel Gillis, they explained what their group is and what they want to achieve by attending this retreat. The upcoming retreat takes place Mar. 16 – 18. They want to make the retreat possible for people of all grades to be able to attend by asking for $1,500 for the three-day retreat. Rethemeier and Gillis stated that the retreat is a time to get away from daily life and to get closer to God over the course of three days. The motion was amended to allocating $100 per attendee, up to $1,500 total. The amendment passed unanimously, 17-0-0.
The St. John’s Senate encourages students to fill out the recent housing survey that was sent out via email, and also posted on their Facebook page. The Senators would like students to fill out the survey completely to better the future of St. John’s housing. Students who complete the survey are entered to win one of three Gary’s Pizza gift cards.
The next SJS meeting will take place in Brother Willie’s Pub on Monday, Jan. 29 at 9:20 p.m.
