Dear Editor,
An ancient and common piece of advice given to someone who is about to meet someone for the first time is to talk about the weather. It is considered to be a neutral topic of conversation, and it is usually a safe way to get the conversation going.
Especially this winter, it seems like it is a popular topic, brought up multiple times of day on campus.
Does that mean we have nothing else to talk to each other about?
Ok, that is a subject for a different day.
However, this winter is so unusual that there are many strong opinions on Minnesota’s lack of a winter so far. Many students are not afraid to complain or rejoice over Minnesota’s current weather conditions.
There are many optimists on the CSB/SJU campus who believe that there will be a downpour of snow before winter is over. Some are still betting on one snow day before school ends in the spring.
I can assure you that that isn’t me. I don’t miss winter drivers, slipping on ice, climbing over snow banks or dressing like a marshmallow just to stay warm.
This is the way I like winter, snowless and warm. I have no complaints. As someone who was born and raised in Minnesota, I still am not used to the Minnesota’s winters.
Sure, call me a not true Minnesotan, but I am trying to enjoy this winter as much as I can.
Sincerely,
Lisa Fenske
CSB Junior
