St. Ben’s Senate Update

On Sept. 28, the St. Ben’s Senate enjoyed a short and efficient meeting of only 18 minutes.

The Senate first heard from two representatives from the Institute for Women’s Leadership, Heather Nicole Saladino and Liz Beaty. A delegation of 12 St. Ben’s students will go to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, in March of 2012 to attend the Women as Global Leaders Conference. The theme of this year’s conference is “Creating a Sustainable Future for the World.” The conference is an opportunity for students to gain awareness of Middle Eastern culture, learn how to lead responsibly and develop connections with women around the world.

“We are encouraging everyone to apply,” Saladino said.

The Senate then congratulated and welcomed their newest Senator, Courtney Kimball.

“We are so excited to see what you can accomplish,” President Anna Martin said.

The Senate received an update about last Thursday’s Bennie Day. So far, a total of 972 Bennie shirts have been sold, and more are still available.

“I want to thank you all for your ideas and help in making this day a success,” Senator Riley Johnson said.

Vice President Evan Lowder then informed the Senate of a meet-and-greet, snacks provided, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. before their next meeting. This will be an opportunity for students to talk to the Senators.

The next St. Ben’s Senate meeting will take place at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, in Gorecki 120.
