More funds allocated for Bike program

The St. Ben’s Senate (SBS) passed two motions at its Wednesday meeting.

The first motion allocated $1550.71 to 23 Bennies to attend Powershift, a conference dedicated to climate change. Originally, the motion was a request for $1789, which included transportation costs for Johnnies and Bennies. However, many senators did not want to use St. Ben’s student activity dollars for Johnnies. The amount allocated was reduced to cover only the transportation and registration costs for Bennies.

The next motion allocated $5,000 to CSB Campus Recreation for the Green Bike Initative.

“If we give the money directly to CSB Campus Recreation, they can use it for purchasing bikes or doing maintenance this year or in the future,” Sen. Brenna Finley said.

Vice President Anna Burgason encouraged the senate to approve the motion.

“We are in the financial position where we can give it this year,” Burgason said.

The senate also discussed the joint senate meeting with administrators about the CSB/SJU Nordic ski team.

“We sought out answers for (the team),” Sen. Jennie Olson said.

The next St. Ben’s Senate meeting will be at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 6 in Gorecki 120.
