SBS Updates: Nordic Ski Team

The St. Ben’s Senate (SBS) heard a presentation from the CSB/SJU Nordic ski team on the team’s recent removal from the CSB/SJU varsity sports program. Members of both teams were present at the meeting.

President Meggan Reinert put all rumors to rest and said to everyone in attendance that the SBS supports the CSB/SJU Nordic ski team and was interested in hearing what the team had to say.

Members of the team presented a PowerPoint about how the administration did not include the team in the decision making process of the cut. The presenters stressed the accomplishments of the team and asked to senate for their support.

After questions, Reinert informed everyone that the Senate would talk to members of the CSB/SJU administration to get both sides of the story before acting on the request for a resolution.

“We would like to keep open lines of communication with you,” President Reinert said to the team.

Members of other CSB/SJU sports teams were in attendance to voice their support for the ski teams work to return the sport to the varsity level.

During the Senate President report, Reinert talked about the upcoming spring elections and how information will be forthcoming.

“Encourage other fabulous Bennies you know,” Reinert said.

Another item brought up in her report was the Bennie Bowl that happened this past weekend.

“It was fabulous; outstanding,” Reinert said.

It was also mentioned that this event received an article in the St. Cloud Times.

The Executive Board reported that they have been working on Day at the Capitol 2011. Trustee Kathryn Hauff mentioned how registration numbers for Day at the Capitol 2011 have been strong.

“That is fantastic to see, but still encourage your friends,” Hauff said.

The senate still plans on having tabling to increase awareness of the event in the days leading up to it.

The senate will celebrate St. Benedict’s Day on March 21 by having a Bennie Bread Breakfast in Gorecki. Bennie Bread and toppings will available to students during the day.  Also, members of the senate are working hard to plan an event called Zoomba-thon. This event will be held April 1 and more information will be forthcoming.
