During the Wednesday CSB Senate meeting, Madeline Dragich asked the Senate for $40 to fund a panel at Br. Willie’s Pub, Monday, March 7. Dragich is organizing the event for her ILCP gold project. The panel is designed for first-year students to give information about the key points of picking an academic adviser. The motion passed 17-0-0.
Four Bennies requested $4,000 from the St. Ben’s Senate for the summer 2011 Washington D.C. Program. The program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to live and work in the Washington D.C. area for eight college credits. The allocation equals one third of housing and transportation costs. Many concerns about the request were addressed.
“I would love to fund anyone who wants to do an internship. But it is essentially paying for credits,” Vice President Anna Burgason said. “I just don’t think it falls under student activity fee”.
However, some also agreed with a statement made by Club Auditor Alisha Ayers.
“I don’t think it is a lot to ask for, considering they are not only gaining personal benefits but are representing our school,” Ayers said.
The Senate voted to amend the motion to allocate $1,000, but the motion failed.
After further discussion, the Senate voted on changing the amendment to $2,000. The motion passed 11-7-0.
