JEC clarifies Pinestock confusion

Dear Editor,

We would like to take this op- portunity to address a variety of concerns surrounding the band selection process for Pinestock.

Over the past few years a significant amount of energy and effort has been placed on increasing the transparency and student input in the band selection process. We have done so by offering student surveys at least twice a year (three this year) asking students the genre and bands you like best.

At the time the surveys are sent out, all bands on the list are available and within the JEC Pinestock budget. This year specifically there was significant interest in Eric Church and Atmosphere; in effort to best represent the musical tastes of the students we made offers to both bands.

Unfortunately both artists declined, resulting in a need for another survey. Regardless of the band selection, the JEC will always put full effort into choosing a band that best reflects the musical tastes of CSB/SJU.

There have also been suggestions that JEC makes Pinestock a biannual event to save money and enable us to contract a larg- er band.

At this time the JEC is bound by allocated student club funds (money we use to pay for Pinestock)which cannot be rolled over from year to year. Further, student surveys during the past three years have indicated the student body wants Pinestock to be an annual event.

We would like to also emphasize that Pinestock is an event not only focused on a band; it is a chance to have the entire CSB/SJU community together to celebrate the end of an academic year and has been for the past 31 years.

Pinestock requires a significant amount of time and effort volunteered by your peers. We ask for your understanding and support and, as always, gladly welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please feel free to e- mail the JEC at jec@csbsju.edu.
